Ordering Custom Toroidal Coils: What Information Should You Send?
A checklist for ordering toroidal coils: electrical requirements, dimensions, terminations, assembly conditions and sample inspection documents.

Toroidal coils come in many constructions, from free leads to through-hole pins or base-mounted assemblies. To discuss the right solution, send the electrical requirements together with the mounting drawing. A photo of a sample helps identify the construction but is not enough to confirm its operating characteristics.
Intended use and electrical requirements
State where the coil sits in the circuit, the signal type and the operating conditions. If there is a target inductance, include the test frequency, tolerance and defined measurement conditions. Provide the operating current and the test requirements from the design documents, not just a single inductance value.
Dimensions and mounting space
The drawing should show the outer dimensions, allowable height, keep-out areas and clearances to related components. For board-mounted parts, also send the hole positions or footprint. The dimensions of the finished winding need to be considered together with the core dimensions.
Terminations and winding identification
Agree on the number of leads, the pin order, the lead-out length and how windings are marked when there are several. If the schematic requires polarity or the start and finish of each winding to be identified, show this in the design documents. Do not infer the wiring diagram from wire colors or wire positions in a photo.
Production conditions and sample acceptance
Provide the sample quantity, first-lot demand, soldering and assembly conditions and the operating environment. The sample approval documents should specify the measurements to be taken, how results are recorded and the acceptance criteria. Only approve a sample once both the electrical and mechanical requirements have been verified within the agreed scope.
Send your request to ZINITEK
Prepare a drawing or reference sample, the wiring diagram, the parameters to be tested, the quantity and the required date. Requirements that are not yet defined should be marked so they can be discussed before the configuration is finalized. You can also browse the coil samples in our catalog to describe the mounting style you need.
